Range Safety Briefing for Members

 These main safety rules apply to both indoor and outdoor range.

 All members must go through this safety briefing with Range Safety Officers or approved PVFGA officers and sign the agreement before they may use the ranges.

 Absolutely no alcohol or mind-altering substances, legal or otherwise, or people under the influence of shall be allowed on premises.

 No shooters under 18 shall be permitted to shoot unless accompanied by an adult or at a club sanctioned shooting event.

 No shooting before 8am, or on Easter or Christmas Day.

 Always assume a firearm is loaded and make sure it’s pointed in a safe direction.  (DOWN RANGE)

 Hearing and eye protection must be worn while on or near the firing line.

1.)      Firearms must be brought to the firing line in a safe manner.  In cases or holstered, unloaded with no magazine or ammunition inserted, or uncased with actions open with no magazine or ammunition inserted.

2.)      Empty chamber flags/indicators are recommended.

3.)      Firearms are to be placed on the firing line with actions open and unloaded with muzzle pointed down range in a safe direction.  

4.)      Before going down range, make all firearms safe, actions open unloaded. Communicate to other shooters of your intention to go down range.

5.)      Make sure all firearms are unloaded and safe.  At outdoor range ,turn on amber safety lights, then go down range to retrieve or change your targets.

6.)      No handling of firearms while others are down range.  This includes sight adjustments and any other handling of weapons including removing any uncased weapons from a vehicle.  Actions to be open and facing up to show clear.  Shooters are to back away from the firing line.

7.)      No hip or unaimed shooting allowed.  All shooting must be done in a controlled manner.  Always know your target and what is behind it.  You are responsible for every round that you fire.

8.)      After shooting, please police your brass and retrieve your targets.  Brass may be placed in the provided buckets.  Duds are to be placed in the dud cylinder located on the firing line of both indoor and outdoor ranges.  No live ammunition is to be left behind.  Make sure all trash is picked up.

9.)      In the case of a hang fire or misfire, point the firearm down range for 1.5 minutes.  Then carefully eject the round and immediately put the dud round in the dud round container located on the firing line.  Make sure the barrel is clear before continuing to fire.

10.)          Make sure that the door / gate is closed and locked behind you as you enter range.  Your membership card must be visible at all times.  You must present your card to any member or officer who may request to see it.  PVFGA will provide lanyards, clips and ID holders to help make this easier.

11.)          When on the firing line please be courteous to all other shooters regarding target changes at regular intervals, as well as making sure all shooters have proper eye and ear protection before commencing firing.

12.)          Tuesdays are 300 yard days.  All shooters must yield to anyone shooting from the 300 yard bench.  All other ranges are CLOSED.  Any other day all ranges are open and anyone shooting from 300 yard bench must yield to other shooters.
